Maths - Carries Cube

Maths today was fun and interesting, because we were given a math equation              about a large cube and figure out how many faces. Here is the problem                                                                   we had to solve...

We had to find out how many three faces were painted in red, in the picture. Mata, Danny Joe and I                                               worked it out using a model, made out of cubes.

For this Maths, we had to get in pairs of 3 and try use our knowlege to figure this out.

We were split into 5 groups. Each group was given a value of the things we learnt. Group 1 was acting out Apreciation. Group 2 was Courage. Group 3 was Perserverence. Group 4 role play was Fairness, and the last group was Friend Ship.

We end Kiwi Can with a game of G.K.Q.

Holiday

I had a great school holiday with my family. It was sad to say goodbye to my dad cause hes leaving to Tonga for a month to go fix the house, and im missing him already.

The last few days, I went to the cinemas in Silvia with my Mum and my brother. We went to go watch 'Miss Peregrine's Home of Peculiar Children'. It was a interesting and an amazing movie how only peculiar people or childrens can travel through loops. Loops can be anywhere but it can take you back to the past, but not the presents. One of the perculiar childrens was in 2016 and he went through the loop and he went back to 1963. Cool right.

The last week of the holiday I spent the night at my aunty's house with Sam and he's younger brother. Every morning when I sleep at my aunty's house, my grandpa is always outside doing the gardens. He planted Kumara and corn. I went outside and gave him a hand with planting the corn. So beside the kumara, in the middle thats where I planted the corn seeds and in the same time it was very muddy.

We only have two more days to school opens. Im looking forward to go back to school and complete my tests which im not ready for. :D

Kiwican Reflection

Today was our last session with Kiwican wich is sad. When we entered Kiwican, we sat on the mat in a circle and first thing we did was play a quick game on G.K.Q. The game was all about the three topics we talked about through out the term. First topic was Goal setting. Second topic was Problem Solving. Latsly the topic we were focusing on the last few weeks was Perseverance.

After G.K.Q we went outside to play a game of Multy Sport. The Multy Sports we played was Netball, Soccer and Touch. Mr Numia split the class into 2 groups. One group was wearing non bibs and bibs. I was in group 1 which was the group with the bibs.

Kiwican is a fun progame for schools because they help you with what ever you are struggling through, turning bulies into your best friends, and they just make school a better life but young students to learn in. I love going Kiwican because we do fun activites like energizer and our activity for what we learnt at the beging of the sessions.

Science Intensive - Magnets

Today for Science Intensive my group and I went to room 10 to Mrs Moopanar. Mrs Moopanar's science was all about Magnets which was so interesting. We did lots of fun activities with magnets. We used 3 Magnets. Bar Magnet, Donut Magent, and a Horse shoe Magnet.

I learnt that there are 2 type of magnets in the world. 1 is Man-Made and the other is Natural, which is made by God. The natural magnet is 'Gravity' thats begins from North Pole and South Pole. Things that's not magenetic is non Metal, like:

  • Plastic
  • Fluff
  • Leather
  • Paper
The first magnet that was dicovered on earth was a Rock called 'Loadstone'. That's what gave humans the Ideas of making magnets.

Cultural Festival Night - Glenbrae School

Tonight was an awesome night for Glenbrae School, because we had our Cultural Festival. We had all the classes performing an item about what they have been learning on Music. The groups that perfored Cultural were the, Kapa Haka, Samaon Ta'ulunga, Sasa, Tongan group, Fijian Faiva dance, Cookisland group and also the young beautiful girls from Room 4 doing a Hawaii dance from the song off 'Lilo and Stitch'.

The groups I had participated in, was the Kapa Haka group which was amazing because I had moko drawn on my chin for the first time, because I was the leader of the girls. I also participated in Sasa. Samoan Ta'ulunga,  the Room 7 Item and the Cookisland group. The cookisland costume were beautiful and all thanks too Mrs Atuahiva our teacher aid, for having the cookisland group taking part of the Cultural Festival.

Here's a video from the Samoan Ta'ulunga at the Cultural Festival, that the girls from the sasa group and I have been learning with my teacher Mrs Tofa.

Lastly, we were split into 6 groups, so 4 in a team. I was in Group 3 with Mata, Dallas and Taki. I had fun, playing and learning in the same time playing Volleyball with my class.

Cook Island Week - Nassau

Kia Oranna!

This week is Cook Island Week and I just wanna share something I know about the 15 island that repersent the Cook Islands. Out of the 15 island I picked Nassau, because my Best Friend Matangaro, her reletives stay there and here some interesting Facts I never knew about Nassau.

Nassau Facts:
  • Nassau is located 90 km south of Pukapuka
  • Nassau is only 9 metres witches 28 feet above sea level
  • Nasau is surrounded by narrow reef flat, palms and it the only island without a lagoon
  • Inland there are rich taro swamps, and fruit groves and offshore, there is good fishing
  • The population was 71 according to 2006 census, now in  2009 the population has gone up to 244,400
  • The area of Nassau is 207 km2

From the facts, I was shocked to hear that Nassau is the only Island without a Lagoon, and also its a pretty small island, but has god fishing.

Kiwi Can

Today, Room 7 had Kiwi Can, with Mr A after Morning Tea. In class we sat in 4 lines on the mat and Mr Afutoto introduce himself to the class, because officialy our teachers are Mrs Tuia and Mr Numia but there absent today so Mr Afutoto came in today as out teacher. Our theme today at Kiwi Can was 'Resilience' and the Topic was 'Goal Seting'. Resilience mean coping with Challenges, and bouncing back up, which means Never giving up. Goal Setting is something you want ahieve in future, and Striving to Succeed.

After talking about our Theme and Topic, we moved on to the next activity which was a game and it was 'Rock, Papper, Sissors'. Mr A played it diferent, like we had to challenge each other for a peg. Each person gets 1 peg each, then vs someone playing Rock, Papper, Sissors, and who ever wins gets their peg from the other person and if you have no pegs on you, good bye, you are out. So basically, the peg is your life, and your trying to get more lives. After that, Mr A seperate the Girls from the Boys.

Us girls had to vs each other and try and get the most pegs, but if you have none, you are out. So who ever gets the most pegs out of the girls, thats the Best girl, but at the end the Best girl had to vs the Best Boy. The Best girl, was Mele and the Best Boy was Levi G. Mr A was in the middle of Mele and Levi G and said 3....2....1..GO!" Levi G shoots Sissors and Mele shoots rock, all the girls cheered for her and we were so happy but Mr A said there's 1 more round, so he let Mele and Levi G of to their group and dicuss what should they think beofre actions. All the girls whispered to Mele to do sissors and thats what Mele was thinking about too so Mr A called them back and said "GO!" rock, pappers, sissors, Levi G shots pappers and Mele shoot sissors, everyone started cheering for her and she thought she lost. It was fun at Kiwi Can with Mr A.

Kiwi Sport - Volleyball

Today I had fun playing Volley as our school Kiwi Sport. It was our first session playing Volleyball for our sport. Antonia, was our coach for today. She is from the Auckland Sport.

First lesson was to get into pairs. I paired up with Mata. Next we were given intruction to do with your parnter. We had to pratice passing the ball over the net by 'Digging' the ball with both of your hands crossed and bendiing you knees, then Dig.

After that Lesson, we had another technic called 'Set'. When you set, both hands in the air and use your finger tips to push it up and over the net. Mata and I were very good, with keping the ball in the air. Next we did the 3 hits, it was kinda complicated for me but we kept uing the technin we learnt (set,Dig) and it was much easier.

Lastly, Antonia split us up into 4 groups. I was in group 2. We had to vs the other team and who ever wins vs the other who had won the other game. The first team we'd vs was group 1. They were alright, but not that much teamwork going around. The next team we vs was group 4. Group 4 was very challenging for us but when Luisa and Danny Joe set the ball up, I ran and done a spike to the other team, that was cool because that was my first time spiking.

Netball Game

Today the Glenbrae year 8 & 7 girls, had a awesome Netball game at AMI Netbal at 4:15 pm, court 23. The team we were vsing was St Cuth's which is a school. They were pretty good compared to the other teams we'd vsed lately. I was playing GA and GS with Mata, because we both love shooting, also blocking too. We had a close game with St Cuth's, but the 3rd and the last quater, we had catched up because Luisa and Dora had done a great job with their blocking and getting the rebounds from the other team, and they had passed it down to Mata and I, and into the hoop. GOAL! everyone cheered for our team. After the game, we looked at each other and we all said "I think we might of lost", but we went to our coach Mrs Atuahiva, and checked the score, we couldn't believe it...WE WON!....yay we were all happy because the scores were 28 - 16, and we thought we lost from 1 point, so we had done a awesome job playing. Later on, I called in the girls to huddle and hands in, for our cheer. I shouted out "3 cheers for St Cuth's!", 'Hip-Ray, Hip-Ray, Hip-Ray'. We lined up and went to shake their hand and thanking them for the nice game.

Our team positions:
Fusi - GA                          Aaliyahna/Melenaite - WA
Mata - GS                         Maara - WD
Luisa - GD                        Amelia/Luisa - C
Dora/Whitney - GK

Science Experiment

My class was experimenting on a science project called 'Seeing Sounds'. Mrs Stone handed out the material of what we going to use to make the science project. It was a Balloon, a Jar and Sissors. With the balloon we had to cut the middle and use the end on the balloon. We had to take off the lid of the jar and put the end of the baloon on top of the jar. We had to bang the top where the balloon is  and if it makes a drum sound, thats alright. After that we went outside and Mrs Stone pour sugar on top of the jar and Mata and I started humming. The vibration of our huming made the sugar move up and down or sidewards, but I don't know if the humming vibration is making the sugar move because while you hum there's air coming out of your nose.

Later on, we watched a video called Candle vs Sounds. In the video there was a boy with some objects in front of him which he will use throught his video. He had a canddle in front og him with a drum, and with the drum he made the noise by banging towards the light and see if it will die out, and it did.

Netball Victory

Today the Netball girls and I won a victory to the Wild Jaguars in Netball at the AMI Netball Courts. The score was 21 - 16, It was a close Game from the beggining but we catched up in 2nd and the 3rd quater and  we tried our best to not give the away the ball and we didn't. The Team we were vsing, I thought it was a school team, but it wasn't, it was acctually a Club and I thought they will be good throught out the game. Our Netball game was a bit up and down with our contacts, stepping and our passes, but our intercepts were on point. As a Captain of the team I think we went well, but we need to look before we pass the ball and defend more with the GK and GD, but I was proud of the girls.

Happy Birthday Oioi

Yesterday it was my little cousin's Birthday, and she just turned 4 years old. My aunty Fina came home with a box which had the cake in it, she place it on the table, and when she opened it..... WOW it looked delicious and yummy. It was a chocolate cake covered with chocolate icing and a thin chocolate bar on top,
that says Happy Birthday, so basically there was chocolate everywhere. We sang the Happy Birthday song to her and when it was finish she had to blow the candels, but she was to shy and afraid. Next, she cut the cake to herself and it was a very big piece, then we all had a piece on the cake. It was Delicious and very sweet, but I used the Whipped Cream for my cake.

Later On we got dresed up to go out. Anuty Fina asked the Birthday girl where she wantd to go, and she replied back saying "Games!" and I knew what she was on about, she was on about the Game Acrade in Town. So we drove there. We got out the car and walked into the Game Acrade. It was packed with lots of different cool games. My aunty gave us a handfull of coins to go play. My cousin and I were playing againts eachother. We kept on beating eachother so we were a tie.

After the Basketbal game we went to this machine which looked fun, but it was $2.00 a game, so I put in $2.00 I hit the big blue button and there was ball coming down a rail and into a whole. Each whole has a number on it, my ball hit number 30, and I got 30 tickets. I put in another $2.00 and I hit the Big Blue button again and when the ball was rolling down I was thinking, what if I got Jack Pot, and all of a sudden it hit Jakpot. I was jumping up and down and I was so happy because if you hit Jack Pot you get 100 tickets.

After that exciting moment It was time to go. I had lots of fun and lots of prizes for the games. Lastly we ended the night with a lovely feed at Andy's Burger. Yummy!.

My Holiday

Today, my Holiday in 1 day was fun and exciting, because my Aunty and two of my little cousin and so as my sister are here spending our holiday in Hamilton for two nights. We are now staying in a Hotel called The Ambassador, in the city. I was given $100 from my sister to spend while we are in Hamilton.

When we arrivied in Hamilton it was 12:20 and 2:00 was the time we had to check into our hotel room. While we were waiting we walked into their mall, and we had a nice feed at their foodcourts. Later on we went into different stores and looked around and also bought some clothes.

After that we went to Pak'n Save to buy some food. It was almost 2:00, so we drove across the road to the Hotel because Pak'n Save was just right across The Ambassador which is the Hotel, so my Aunty hopped out of the car and went to the reception room to check in to get our key for our room.

After a while we entered into our room, my little cousin ran in and started jumping on the big huge bed. There we 2 single beds and 1 huge bed. My sister and I will each have a single bed and my Aunty and the 2 littles ones has the big bed. There was a bathroom and kitchen, but it only had a Kettle, Mini Frigde, and a Microwave with some little packets of surgar, coffe and milo.

Next, we unpacked the car and put our bags near our beds. After that we relaxed for only 1 hour because my Aunty booked 4 sits to the Movies, so we left the Hotel and went to the cinemas in town. We went to go watch Ice Age - The Collision Course. It was an awesome movie and funny in the same time. We had popcorn and drinks, and that was delicious. Lastly, we went to buy KFC, and that was our delicious dinner.

Kiwi Sport - Netball

Today we had Kiwi Sport with Coach Anne. We learnt to intercept the ball between two people, chest passing to each other. Next, Coach Anne taught us another activity called Four Corner Attacked. For that game, one person stands at a corner with a ball in their hands, and a attacker needs to be in the middle. Then one person calls out a number and the defender tries to get the ball. Lastly, we played a game of a shooting game. To play that game we need to be divided into two groups. Each student will be numbered and and when their number has been called they need to run to the middle and get the ball, and pass it down to each person in your group and into the goal. Today was good day because I and fun and also I was pumped and excited.

Kiwi Sport - Netball

Today we had Kiwi Sport for Netball with Coach Anne. Coach Anne is from Auckland Netball. We were learning how to Pivot and to jump and land on two feet on the ground. Next we got in to 3 groups of 7, and line up beetween the Hulahoop and the Balls. We had a relay by passing down the ball to each student in the line and into the Hulahoop. Lastly our last activity was kinda like Rugby Netball. We had to get into 2 lines and one team had no bibs and my team wore bibs. Coch Anne had to throw the ball into the midle and we had to catch the ball and throw it to the people that was in your team and try to get a score. At the end of the court, Coash Anne drew a line across the court and that's our tryline. The first team that score's up to 10, they win. My team that was wearing bibs was the first one to get 10 points and we won. The score was
10 - 7. Each team played fair and we had alot of fun.

Math

Today we are participating in a real life problem. Our group will need to work out how to find the fraction of whole and mixed numbers in order to keep everyone happy...

Yesterday we were left with 6 chocolate bars split between 13 children. How much chocolate would each child now receive?
We get 6/13 each

Miss stone doesn’t feel like chocolate today. How much chocolate would each child receive if their are seven chocolate bar. There were supposed to be 14 children in our group, how much chocolate would each child receive if there were 7 chocolate bars.
Each child gets 1/2 each because 7 x 2 = 14

Potato Experiment

Today we are doing a experience on two potatoes. 1 of the potato would be put outside where the sunlight is and the other would be put in a dark place, which is going to be in a box. Mrs Tofa is going to stab a hole in the box and see if the Potato would grow towards the sunlight. After a month we will check two of the Potatoes, if they had grown? or not grown?.

Hypothesis: I think the Potato in the box is going to grow towards the sunlight.

MRS GREN

For the last few days room 7 has been learning about Mrs Gren and how do we know living things are alive.

Description - D.C Marvel World

D.C Marvel World

D.C Marvel World is a place for kids to have fun and also a Theme Park/Adventure Park. It’s full of joy and kids laughing and crying. Family’s having a picnic while the other is vomiting. Each ride or place they’re going to, has a Marvel or D.C character in their park.

First ride, is the ShaZam Ride it’s called ShaZam because it’s fast just like Flash. It’s a rollercoaster and at the back of the roller coaster seats there’s a statue of Flash pushing it, and it’s very fast and exciting. It has 20 seats, but in two lines. The ShaZam Ride has lots of up’s and down’s and loopy loops. Hearing lots of people screaming and maybe crying for few time right after it’s stops.

Second, we have Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s fun ride is the Wonder Bumper. Wonder Bumper is a car you drive just like the Bumper Cars, but when you try to bump the cars you literally get bumped off like you’re flying, but it has safety airbag that pops out from the bottom of the bumper car. Lots of kids and parents laugh during flying in the air.

Third, comes the HULK DROP. The Hulk Drop is similar to the Fear Fall, but the Hulk Drob is like a double ride of the Fear Fall. The Hulk Drop ride, has 4 seats so as the other side. Once you’re at the top you suddenly just drop and when you reach the bottom, Hulk appears in front of the people and does a Thunder Clap towards them and they fly back up and drops again but safely because it’s almost finish. When they get off their seat, they’ll probably run to the rubbish bin or get a bucket and vomit. YUK!.

Lastly, we have the Super Escape. The Super Escape is Superman’s Ride when he is trying to save you by escaping you out of the mine. You are in a cart and it has trails that goes crazy around you and also through caves that are black holes, and when superman is trying to save you,you are moving backward so that mean you don’t know what’s coming . It has four seats and also with a seatbelt for safety. Once Superman escapes you out of the mine, there's another trail that leads you outside and it connects with a roller coaster and it goes super fast and it feels like you're flying.

This is my D.C Marvel World, and this is not the end of my rides there’s more to come like Batman, Green Lantern, Spider Man, Thor, Black Widow and also Captain America. It very fun and if you have nothing to do come by to D.C Marvel World.

Rippa Rugby

Today, we had our 3rd session with Coach Matt taking a Rippa Rugby Lesson on our school field. All the cones were set out on the field ready for us to train.

First, Coach Matt handed out some yellow and white tags with the belts. After getting our tags on, we lined up in a line to play Bull Rush for our warm up. Coach Matt picked one student to be a tagger which was Mateaki. The tagger called out some names or colours then Bull Rush.

After the warm up, we got into four lines behind the cones. We were getting ready to do scissors which is passing the ball down through your players while running. We were passing the ball a few times, then we stopped to move on to the next lesson.

Next, we were split into two teams, White and Yellow. Coach Matt called out 5 students from my team, Yellow and 3 students from the White team. The yellow team had the ball and the White team was defending. We played for a while and changed the defenders with each teams.

Lastly, we play a game of Rippa Rugby. It was fun and also funny. I learnt from the session, to target the ball, calling for the ball, concentrate on the ball and to mark the player.
