Cultural Festival Night - Glenbrae School

Tonight was an awesome night for Glenbrae School, because we had our Cultural Festival. We had all the classes performing an item about what they have been learning on Music. The groups that perfored Cultural were the, Kapa Haka, Samaon Ta'ulunga, Sasa, Tongan group, Fijian Faiva dance, Cookisland group and also the young beautiful girls from Room 4 doing a Hawaii dance from the song off 'Lilo and Stitch'.

The groups I had participated in, was the Kapa Haka group which was amazing because I had moko drawn on my chin for the first time, because I was the leader of the girls. I also participated in Sasa. Samoan Ta'ulunga,  the Room 7 Item and the Cookisland group. The cookisland costume were beautiful and all thanks too Mrs Atuahiva our teacher aid, for having the cookisland group taking part of the Cultural Festival.

Here's a video from the Samoan Ta'ulunga at the Cultural Festival, that the girls from the sasa group and I have been learning with my teacher Mrs Tofa.

Kiwi Sport - Volley

Today Rm 7 had their 2nd session with Coach Antonia for Kiwi Sport - Volley.

First, we got into 2 pairs, and began t pass the ball by digging it over to your partner. Next, we remain with the same partner but instead of digging the ball, we set it over the net to you partner. Lastly, we were split into 6 groups, so 4 in a team. I was in Group 3 with Mata, Dallas and Taki. I had fun, playing and learning in the same time playing Volleyball with my class.

Cook Island Week - Nassau

Kia Oranna!

This week is Cook Island Week and I just wanna share something I know about the 15 island that repersent the Cook Islands. Out of the 15 island I picked Nassau, because my Best Friend Matangaro, her reletives stay there and here some interesting Facts I never knew about Nassau.

Nassau Facts:
  • Nassau is located 90 km south of Pukapuka
  • Nassau is only 9 metres witches 28 feet above sea level
  • Nasau is surrounded by narrow reef flat, palms and it the only island without a lagoon
  • Inland there are rich taro swamps, and fruit groves and offshore, there is good fishing
  • The population was 71 according to 2006 census, now in  2009 the population has gone up to 244,400
  • The area of Nassau is 207 km2

From the facts, I was shocked to hear that Nassau is the only Island without a Lagoon, and also its a pretty small island, but has god fishing.

Kiwi Can

Today, Room 7 had Kiwi Can, with Mr A after Morning Tea. In class we sat in 4 lines on the mat and Mr Afutoto introduce himself to the class, because officialy our teachers are Mrs Tuia and Mr Numia but there absent today so Mr Afutoto came in today as out teacher. Our theme today at Kiwi Can was 'Resilience' and the Topic was 'Goal Seting'. Resilience mean coping with Challenges, and bouncing back up, which means Never giving up. Goal Setting is something you want ahieve in future, and Striving to Succeed.

After talking about our Theme and Topic, we moved on to the next activity which was a game and it was 'Rock, Papper, Sissors'. Mr A played it diferent, like we had to challenge each other for a peg. Each person gets 1 peg each, then vs someone playing Rock, Papper, Sissors, and who ever wins gets their peg from the other person and if you have no pegs on you, good bye, you are out. So basically, the peg is your life, and your trying to get more lives. After that, Mr A seperate the Girls from the Boys.

Us girls had to vs each other and try and get the most pegs, but if you have none, you are out. So who ever gets the most pegs out of the girls, thats the Best girl, but at the end the Best girl had to vs the Best Boy. The Best girl, was Mele and the Best Boy was Levi G. Mr A was in the middle of Mele and Levi G and said 3....2....1..GO!" Levi G shoots Sissors and Mele shoots rock, all the girls cheered for her and we were so happy but Mr A said there's 1 more round, so he let Mele and Levi G of to their group and dicuss what should they think beofre actions. All the girls whispered to Mele to do sissors and thats what Mele was thinking about too so Mr A called them back and said "GO!" rock, pappers, sissors, Levi G shots pappers and Mele shoot sissors, everyone started cheering for her and she thought she lost. It was fun at Kiwi Can with Mr A.

Kiwi Sport - Volleyball

Today I had fun playing Volley as our school Kiwi Sport. It was our first session playing Volleyball for our sport. Antonia, was our coach for today. She is from the Auckland Sport.

First lesson was to get into pairs. I paired up with Mata. Next we were given intruction to do with your parnter. We had to pratice passing the ball over the net by 'Digging' the ball with both of your hands crossed and bendiing you knees, then Dig.

After that Lesson, we had another technic called 'Set'. When you set, both hands in the air and use your finger tips to push it up and over the net. Mata and I were very good, with keping the ball in the air. Next we did the 3 hits, it was kinda complicated for me but we kept uing the technin we learnt (set,Dig) and it was much easier.

Lastly, Antonia split us up into 4 groups. I was in group 2. We had to vs the other team and who ever wins vs the other who had won the other game. The first team we'd vs was group 1. They were alright, but not that much teamwork going around. The next team we vs was group 4. Group 4 was very challenging for us but when Luisa and Danny Joe set the ball up, I ran and done a spike to the other team, that was cool because that was my first time spiking.

Netball Game

Today the Glenbrae year 8 & 7 girls, had a awesome Netball game at AMI Netbal at 4:15 pm, court 23. The team we were vsing was St Cuth's which is a school. They were pretty good compared to the other teams we'd vsed lately. I was playing GA and GS with Mata, because we both love shooting, also blocking too. We had a close game with St Cuth's, but the 3rd and the last quater, we had catched up because Luisa and Dora had done a great job with their blocking and getting the rebounds from the other team, and they had passed it down to Mata and I, and into the hoop. GOAL! everyone cheered for our team. After the game, we looked at each other and we all said "I think we might of lost", but we went to our coach Mrs Atuahiva, and checked the score, we couldn't believe it...WE WON!....yay we were all happy because the scores were 28 - 16, and we thought we lost from 1 point, so we had done a awesome job playing. Later on, I called in the girls to huddle and hands in, for our cheer. I shouted out "3 cheers for St Cuth's!", 'Hip-Ray, Hip-Ray, Hip-Ray'. We lined up and went to shake their hand and thanking them for the nice game.

Our team positions:
Fusi - GA                          Aaliyahna/Melenaite - WA
Mata - GS                         Maara - WD
Luisa - GD                        Amelia/Luisa - C
Dora/Whitney - GK
