Rippa Rugby

Today, we had our 3rd session with Coach Matt taking a Rippa Rugby Lesson on our school field. All the cones were set out on the field ready for us to train.

First, Coach Matt handed out some yellow and white tags with the belts. After getting our tags on, we lined up in a line to play Bull Rush for our warm up. Coach Matt picked one student to be a tagger which was Mateaki. The tagger called out some names or colours then Bull Rush.

After the warm up, we got into four lines behind the cones. We were getting ready to do scissors which is passing the ball down through your players while running. We were passing the ball a few times, then we stopped to move on to the next lesson.

Next, we were split into two teams, White and Yellow. Coach Matt called out 5 students from my team, Yellow and 3 students from the White team. The yellow team had the ball and the White team was defending. We played for a while and changed the defenders with each teams.

Lastly, we play a game of Rippa Rugby. It was fun and also funny. I learnt from the session, to target the ball, calling for the ball, concentrate on the ball and to mark the player.

Ripper Rugby

 Ripper Rugby

Today during school, when the bell rang, my class was getting ready to go for Ripper Rugby at 9:00. When the coach had arrived, we all assembled at the field.

The coach’s name is Matt. He is from the Varsity Club around St John's in Auckland. Coach Matt hands out forms to Primary and Intermediate Schools if they want to sign up for Rugby Union at the Varsity Club.

Coach Matt taught us, to put your hands out for the other player to target it, pass the ball back and hold back if they run in front of you. Coach Matt also taught us the rules in Ripper Rugby.

In Ripper Rugby there’s no defending the player, try the ball between the cone, 7 people on the field and equal teams, Off sides, did a forward pass, diving on the ball on the ground, Pushing, Tackling, Fending or kicking the ball, you will have to lose the ball and hand it over the ball to the other team.

Today, was fun because everybody was paying attention and following instruction what coach Matt was explaining to us and also I had fun playing Ball Rush.
